Our Purpose
The Climate Council is independent, evidence-led and powered by passionate people like you! Thousands of Australians got together in 2013 to crowdfund us into existence as Australia’s own independent climate organisation. We’ve been fearlessly advocating for the climate solutions Australia needs ever since.
In partnership with our incredible community, we are:
- Shaping the national conversation
- Putting climate change at the top of the political agenda
- Calling out mis- and dis-information
- Advocating for evidence-based solutions
Our Vision
We can materially contribute to the global climate challenge and unlock social and economic benefits for Australians if we cut climate pollution far and fast enough this decade. This represents a transformation in action and attitude from all levels of government, industry, business and community. But we know it’s worth it to protect Australian lives and our natural environment, and to create a safer future for our kids.
Our Mission
To be a courageous catalyst propelling Australia towards necessary and effective solutions, so climate pollution plummets by 75% during the 2020s and we reach net zero by 2035.
How we achieve change
- Necessary pre-conditions: We provide accessible and reliable information. We work with trusted voices. We build public support with persuasive communications.
- Good decision making: We hold decision makers accountable. We build consensus with stakeholders. We enable good decisions that lead to genuine and sustained cuts to climate pollution, and prevent poor decisions that worsen or hamper our efforts.
- Profiling and socialising: We profile and celebrate good decisions, so the benefits and outcomes are widely known and well understood.
- Replication and scale: We compel and inspire others to act, so that momentum builds and good decisions are replicated and scaled up.
Together, we’re powerful
