The Climate Council has congratulated Premier-elect Peter Malinauskas on his party’s South Australian election win at the weekend, and acknowledges the work and dedication to effective climate policy set in place by outgoing Premier Steven Marshall.
Under a Labor Government, South Australia will continue to reap the rewards of its nation-leading climate and energy policies, which will create jobs, strengthen the economy and reduce emissions across the state.
We look forward to working with the new government to continue South Australia’s leadership on emissions reduction and clean jobs creation. In particular, we welcome the opportunity to provide advice on implementation of the Hydrogen Jobs Plan and the Planning and Design Code.
The incoming government can continue to reduce emissions by further developing policies to improve energy efficiency, expand access to sustainable transport and phase out gas use.
We want to acknowledge the outgoing government and their leadership in committing to reduce emissions, especially their target to be 100% renewable by 2030.
In particular, we want to thank the outgoing Deputy Premier and Minister for Energy Dan van Holst Pellekaan, who has been a tireless advocate of South Australia’s energy transition for the last four years.
