Associate Professor Joel Gilmore is an energy expert with over 15 years’ experience in the energy market and the integration of renewable energy and green fuels into the grid.
Joel originally completed a PhD in Physics studying the role of quantum mechanics in photosynthesis. He then worked for ROAM Consulting and EY on electricity market modeling and economic analysis. This included providing banking grade price forecasts for all technologies and supporting the development of major policies such as the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, the Renewable Energy Target, and the Victorian Renewable Energy Target. He also worked for Queensland Government on the Queensland Renewable Energy Target, and for the market operator AEMO on policy design.
He is currently the General Manager Regulation & Energy Policy at Iberdrola Australia, supporting the development of efficient markets and policy. He is also an Associate Professor at Griffith University’s CAEEPR centre and is widely published on renewable energy, green fuels, and firming technologies.
