Peter Holding is a third-generation farmer and works on his family property in Harden, south east New South Wales. As well as growing crops, such as canola and wheat, Peter runs sheep for wool and lambs.
Peter has a background in agricultural science, and is member of the Climate Kelpie – a one-stop shop for farmers after practical information and tools with which to manage climate change risk and impact. He has an extensive knowledge of the strategies that farmers can use to manage and adapt to climate change; many of which he has been able to implement on his own farm.
One of Peter’s greatest achievements was the Managing Climate Variability (MCV) Climate Champion program, which ran from 2009-2016, and gave farmers from around Australia the opportunity to learn the best tools to manage climate risk. The program was a finalist in the Banksia Sustainability Awards for Leadership in Citizenship and Communities. It was also a runner-up for the 2011 Eureka Prize for Advancement of Climate Change Knowledge. Peter is a member of Farmers for Climate Action.
